Question: The overriding question that is being asked is how many Marcellus Shale wells and/or well permits that are in place in Mercer County at this time? The answer now is none and none. What is going on is the preliminary work and research necessary to issue permits and drill those wells. It is also alleged that they are coming up the Ohio River and then up the PA OH border.
Permits have allegedly been sought for the drilling of 2000 30' holes for seismic research.

Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett has expressed his willingness to discuss an "Impact Fee" on Marcellus Drilling Companies. This money would allegedly not go to the general fund for the support of welfare and other social programs. It would stay with the local communities for the support of the infrastructure costs that will inevitably burden them. This money would go no higher in the State than the County Government in which it was collected.
